Let
me tell you About Us. Our names are Tim and Carol. We’ve been in North
Carolina for over 13 years now. We have 2 wonderful children. One
studying to be a lawyer and the other is just starting college in the
computer field. We also have two dogs, Sophie and Rocky, and a cat,
Rascal.
We started on this crazy adventure in 2005. Before that we were both in
the IT field. Carol is still in the field but I, as luck would have it,
was laid off on Valentines Day 2002. That’s when I started my career in
Real Estate.
Not long after this career change Carol’s Mom passed away. She was
extremely depressed, as you can imagine. So to cheer her up, I took her
to a Log Home Expo in Raleigh. There we saw a man demonstrating a high
speed hand tool he used to carve designs into egg shells, wood and etch
on glass. Carol was quite taken by this. So, I went ahead and purchased
the tool for her, thinking it would be great for her to have something
to do to take her mind off her troubles. Carol has been doing craft
work since she was a little girl so it was not a big stretch for her to
pick this up. She’s really the one with all the talent when it comes to
design.
At that point I said “Hey, what about me?” Feeling a little left out, I
wanted to have some fun too. So Carol agreed that if I found something
I wanted to do to go for it. That was a big mistake. I dug into
research like crazy. That’s when I found etched and carved glass. It
was love at first sight.
That’s when I found Norm and Ruth Dobbins. They were doing a seminar at
one of the trade shows in Charlotte, NC. We attended, met Norm and
Ruth, and decided right then and there this is what I wanted to do. I
scheduled a class with them and off I went to New Mexico. I’ll tell you
that story another time. To say I had a great time is an
understatement. Carol was not happy that she couldn’t go due to work
commitments. However, I came home and proceeded to teach Carol
everything I learned. She picked it up right away and is very good at
it, I must say.
That’s where my etching career started. Other than being trained by
Norm and Ruth Dobbins, we are heavily influenced by Butch Young,
another well respected artist in this business. We plan to attend
another class at Alianto School in October 2008. We’re going to learn
how to add color to our etched and carved pieces.
Please feel free to contact us should you
have any questions about our art or services. |
